Project Brief…
In pairs, design a product for an environmentally driven mail-order company whose skills and plant are built around laser cutting sheet material: card, ply, mdf and plastics. They are looking for ideas for postable gifts aimed at one of the following markets:
– corporate gift: identify a club, institution or company and design a gift that can be enclosed as part of a marketing mailshot or festive greetings card
Sad short story about promotional corporate giftware…
Imagining walking down the street in a busy town, you are in auto-pilot mode rushing from point A to point B. Suddenly, you realize there is a few people giving out promotional gift bags just a few yards away and you didn’t have time to dodge away. The next thing you know would probably be seeing yourself unconsciously accepted the gift bag. Then you will throw it away once you can spot the closest bin because what’s inside was leaflets that you can’t be bothered to read and low quality pens with a logo of a company that you’ve never heard of before.
To extend the lifetime of the corporate gift, we designed this new product to allow more user interaction involved than other traditional corporate gifts as well as adding a function to it.
We have found a greatest increase (0.8%) in market share of promotional phone accessories amongst the other 9 categories such as stress products, key rings, pens…etc from 2013-2014, we have decided comply with this market trend.

This portable phone stand is allowing people to watch videos, video call friends and family on their phone hands free. Function will be find useful on trains, eating out alone or even at home.
Using sheet based material will not only save space but also allow companies to put texts and information on easily.
Polypropylene is a thermal plastic that can be recycled, so when the time comes, users can simply put it into a recycling bin.
