A furniture for both lazy and hard working people

My mother is the financial backbone of the family. She has switched from working in an office to working at home due to the change of the family circumstance. Her job mainly includes organizing piles and piles of documents for different clients.

Sometimes files have to be spread out across desk, dining table and chairs, all the spaces have left for her was the sofa. The ideal solution would probably be purchasing an office chair and office table. However, none of the size of our rooms is allowing that to happen.

Size and form of the sofa are restricting movements and forcing my mother into an unhealthy typing and reading posture, potentially causing sprains at spinal cord and wrist areas, also affecting her eye sight.

Main idea of the solution is to raise the level of the laptop to enhance comfort while typing and reading as well as providing room for leg stretches during long period of sitting.

To tackle problems in spaces for storage and minimising task required when utilizing this product, designing process ensures product consists of minimal materials and components.

Stand can be detached, allowing itself to fit perfectly at the bottom of the wardrobe.

The balance of curves and sharp edges enhanced the sensation of user interaction. Form of the stand ensures that it can be seen as a decoration in the house when it’s not being used. Such requirements in aesthetic have been achieved by using composite material flexi-plywood and material has been stained to a warm colour tone to match other furniture in the house.

After presenting the initial solution to user, she has appreciated the comfort of the product provides and how easy it is to use. However, she had given some advices in how the product can be improved.

– If the height of the stand can be adjusted, the level of the screen can be raised even more to watch videos in leisure time and be lowered for typing when working.

– Although mouse is not a necessity for her, it would still be better if the product includes an additional mouse pad, just due the fact that this product was designed for laptops.
